The first annual Greater Burlington Restaurant Week will be held September 18-24, 2017. Greater Burlington’s event is the fourth of its kind in the state of Iowa joining Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and the Quad Cities.
What is Restaurant Week?
Established in 1992 in New York City by Tim Zagat (founder of Zagat Survey which rates restaurants all over the world), the concept of restaurant week has spread across the US to cities throughout every state in the nation. Though Restaurant Weeks vary from place to place, the general concept is that local restaurants work together with local media to promote a week of lunch and dinner specials. Restaurants offer reduced prices for a prix fixe menu, the idea being that what they lose in check averages they gain in sales volume. Some restaurants report increased volume as high as 40% during Restaurant Week. (Mealy, Lori, “What is Restaurant Week”, The Balance, 2 September 2016)
How will this work in Greater Burlington?
Titan Broadcasting has partnered with the Greater Burlington Partnership to spearhead this effort in Greater Burlington. Restaurants will sign up to participate through Titan. Titan will implement promotional plans to enhance utilization of restaurants during Restaurant Week and beyond. The idea behind Restaurant Week is to showcase your restaurant’s food to customers who may not eat there regularly. So each participant will be promoted on air (101.7 The Bull, KBKB-FM and The New Mix 107.3, KGRS, via social media and online).Restaurant Weeks are traditionally meant to enhance slower times of the year. Many of Titan Broadcasting’s clients have indicated that the fall, once children return to school, is a slower period for them so the week of Sept. 18-24 was designated.
In additional to being promoted on air, participating restaurants will have their menus and restaurant information listed on the official event website, www.greaterburlingtonrestaurantweek.com.
